Gen. Chang Dingqiu: Air formations ready for parade

How are the final preparations?

General Chang said:"The preparations have mainly focused on three areas: Research and planning, strict training, and team work cooperation. We've made five steps in formation practice, to achieve the final goal of the highest level."

"At present, all air formations have reached inspection requirements. This goal could have been achieved even with less training time for the parade. This is the result of the overall upgrading of capabilities throughout the routine training over the past years to meet real combat situations. It's a reflection of the growing strength of today's PLA."

"The air formations have many highlights:They reflect the improvement of technology. A number of advanced indigenous aircraft will be taking part. The formations are a combination of all armed forces -- land, navy and air. Some of the new formations will be shown for the first time. They are highly anticipated."

"Our target is to achieve zero-second and zero-meter accuracy. Pilots rely on flying experience, strict training, and advanced equipment. The distance between aircraft depends on their skill. Now all aircraft can achieve accuracy of less than one meter in formation."

"Weather is a concern for flying safety, but won't be the major factor restricting our flying. We've taken every possible measure to ensure flying safety, including how to retreat in case of emergency, and where to retreat and so on. I have full confidence that the display will reach our expectations, to achieve the goal of a clear message sent with stunning images."

"This parade will further boost the Air Force's development. The inspection will help speed up the military's transformation towards even greater combat capabilities."
