Qingdao launched its emergency response system as soon as it received notice of the threat. The Qingdao government has urged the whole city to mobilize on algae removal and disposal, tackling the shore, the tidal zone, and offshore waters, and attempting to minimize any damage and ensure a favorable environment for the coming Olympic Sailing Regatta. Thousands of people, hundreds of diverse craft, and several loading machines are involved in the effort. To date, more than ten tons of algae have been cleared.
