An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale hit Nyainrong County in Tibet's Nagqu at 8:58 a.m. Saturday, the China Earthquake Network Center said.

The epicenter was 32.5 degrees north latitude and 92.8 degrees east longitude, about 60 kilometers north of Nyainrong, with a depth of about 10 kilometers.

No immediate reports of casualties or economic losses were available. Tibet's seismological bureau has sent a work team to Nyainrong.

The quake-hit area, sparsely populated, has an average altitude of 5,000 meters.

On March 24, two earthquakes measuring 5.7 and 5.5 struck Nyainrong without causing human or livestock casualties.
