Power supplies in the northwestern China quake zone were almost fully restored, authorities said Monday.

The power facilities in Yushu County had mostly been repaired, bringing supplies back to normal, Gu Junyuan, spokesman for State Electricity Regulatory Commission (SERC), said at a press conference.

The supply could meet the needs of medical stations, shelters and rescue work, Gu said.

Ninety-five percent of the repair work of Yushu County's main power grid had been completed, said Wang Huaiming, general manager of Qinghai Electric Power Corporation.

Ten teams of 600 technicians had been working day and night to recover power supplies after the quake devastated the prefecture's grid, Wang said.

The 7.1-magnitude quake, which killed at least 1,944 people, struck Yushu County in Yushu prefecture at 7:49 a.m. on Wednesday.
