The Macao Red Cross said Friday it had received a total of 474 million patacas (600,000 U.S. dollars) in donations from local communities for China's quake-stricken Qinghai province.

In addition to the donations, the Macao Red Cross said it would assist reconstruction in the quake zone in Yushu prefecture, northwest China's Qinghai province, to help quake victims recover from the disaster as soon as possible.

The government of Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) said it would fully support Macao Red Cross's participation in relief operations and reconstruction in Qinghai.

Aside from the Macao Red Cross, several local non-governmental organizations have opened bank accounts and set up boxes in various supermarkets to raise donations.

Meanwhile, local gaming magnate Stanly Ho Thursday contributed five million Hong Kong dollars (644,131 U.S. dollars) to help the quake victims, which would be sent to Qinghai via the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in Macao SAR, according to an announcement issued from Ho's office.

The quake in Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Yushu has left 2,187 people dead and 80 missing. Among the 12,135 injured, 1,434 were in serious condition.
