In a recent competition for the most innovative tourism projects in Shandong Province, the Fantawild Adventure Theme Park and the re-enactments of Imperial Rites both won top awards.

Tai'an is restructuring its tourism product mix to offer entertainments in addition to Mount Taishan. In the past, visitors would spend a few hours climbing Taishan before leaving the city. The new attractions will encourage them to stay for several days.

Tai'an plans to take advantage of the Shanghai World Expo and the coming Chinese Lunar New Year to launch two new themed tours. Special efforts will be made to attract tourists from Japan, Korea and Southeast Asia.

Between January and June this year, Tai'an welcomed 13.55 million tourists, of whom more than 128,000 were from overseas. Total revenue from tourism reached 10.86 billion yuan (US$1.58 billion) - up 40 percent over the same period last year.
