Dongying named model city for renewable energy use

Dongying City in Shandong Province was chosen as a 2011 'Model City' for its green buildings which use renewable sources of energy, according to China's Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development.

This year, Dongying plan to launch 30 new sustainable construction projects which utilize renewable energy, with a combined total floor space of over 2.4 million square meters.

The city will receive a special subsidy of 60 million yuan (US$ 9.44 million) from state revenues for the projects.
