In 2010, China's vegetable possession per capita in 2020 is projected to reach 400 kilograms, an increase over the current 370 kilograms despite the anticipated 100 million in added population over the same period, according to the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC).

To meet the rising demand of vegetables, NDRC has marked out 680 important vegetable planting areas in the Vegetable Industry Development Plan announced Monday, of which 61 are in Shandong Province.

The list includes vegetable producing areas such as Guangrao County, Juye County and Feixian County as well as vegetable and grain producing areas such as Shouguang City, Pingyuan County and Jiyang County.
