Roller skater Guo Dan grabbed the first gold medal on June 17 at the third Asian Beach Games opening on June 16 in Haiyang, a coastal city of Shandong province.

Guo, 22, claimed the women's 10,000 meters points title for China. Woo Hyo Sook from South Korea, 2010 Asian Games gold medalist, finished runner-up with 16 points. Yang Ho-Chen from Chinese Taipei secured a bronze medal.

Guo said she owed her victory to her supportive 17-year-old teammate Li Lisha, who finished in the sixth place.

Guo will also compete in the women's 20,000 meters elimination on Monday.

With the opening ceremony of the third Asian Beach Games to kick off on June 16, more than 1,600 athletes from 45 countries and regions will compete in 13 sports, including beach soccer, cliff climbing, windsurfing, powered paragliding, beach volleyball and beach basketball.
