The "National Modern Fishery Work Videophone Conference" was held on June 26.

Zhao Runtian, the vice-governor of Shandong province, gave a speech at the conference. He said that more than 50 modern fishery parks of 667 hectares or above have been built in Shandong, with the largest one having an area of almost 13,333 hectares.

Meanwhile a 133,333-hectare ecological fishery base in Yellow River Delta is being planned. A number of modern fishery companies were rapidly created in the parks.

Shandong has bred 20 new fishery cultivars and cultivated 10 fishery brands, like Jiaodong Trepang, and Yellow River Estuary Hairy Crabs. Up to 12 fishery cultivars generated an annual output value of more than 1 billion yuan each.

Zhao also mentioned that Shandong offshore fishing area extends over all oceans. In 2012, the export of aquatic products was worth US $4.86 billion, accounting for one third of the nation's aquatic products export.
