The local government of Gaomi has planted more than 400 mu (26,67 hectares) of broomcorn in line with the shooting requirements for the TV series adapted from Mo Yan's novel "Red Broomcorn," which can in turn boost local tourism.

Mo, the celebrated Nobel laureate in literature, became an overnight sensation after winning the prize. Gaomi in Shandong is Mo's hometown.
