Houzhen Town is now striving to become a top 10 town in Shandong and a top 100 town nationwide, highlighting its emphasis on becoming a "one-hundred—billion yuan scale industrial base" and a "characteristically small city."

Houzhen Town has won itself many honors these years due to its rapid development: Provincial Center Town, Provincial Civilized Town, Provincial Tourism Town, etc.

Houzhen Town gained 19 billion yuan in its main business income from January to July this year through establishing large-scale companies, a total quarter's increase year-on-year and a 79 percent growth in local public finance, up to 257 million yuan.

Houzhen Town aims at being a small city. It has developed large ranges of residential estates, has invested millions in concentrated heating, sewage treatment and road broadening and has undertaken the integration with urban transportation.

The town made fresh tap water available to locals last year, while at the same time revamping its roads, building schools and constructing a cultural center with a 3D cinema and a fitness center. It is acclaimed for its investment in people's living conditions.

Houzhen town belongs to Shouguang city, famous for its salt commerce in the past.
