To let the public know the distribution of Shandong provincial cultural relic protection units and mobilize social forces to protect the province's cultural heritage, the Shandong provincial government announced its fourth list of provincial cultural relic protection units the other day, including 606 ancient sites and buildings.

Among these units, there are 190 ancient sites, 74 ancient tombs, 146 ancient buildings, 23 grottoes temples and rock carvings, 124 historical sites and characteristic buildings of modern times, as well as 49 ancient bridges and dwellings.

These units will be protected according to the policy of "Protection and rescue first, rational use and strengthening management." In recent years, with the rapid development of urban and rural infrastructures, several sites and tombs have been excavated or simply disappeared.

In a bid to promote the sustainable development of cultural relic protection and improve the targeted, regulatory and effective use of provincial cultural relics funds, the Provincial Financial Department and the provincial administration of cultural relics jointly drew up the 2013-2015 project Plan of Special Funds for Protection of Great Sites and Key Provincial Cultural Relics.

According to the plan, the government has already allocated 100 million yuan in protection funds.
