Local media Shandong News reported that many places in Shandong have been shrouded in fog since mid-October. Shandong Province will soon announce its emergency plan to improve the forecast of heavy pollution and the capacity of emergency response, as well as reduce the risks of heavy pollution in a bid to improve air quality by 50 percent in 2020.

Emergency measures can only provide a temporary solution, while finding the root of the problem can really solve it. To create a sound pattern for the prevention and treatment of air pollution, Shandong will first focus on industries such as coal-fired power, building materials and chemical industry. In 2015, emission privileges of high pollution industries will be cancelled entirely and steel and cement production projects will no longer be approved. In Heze, three leading enterprises were ordered to make adjustments because their equipment problems had led to an awful smell. These three enterprises were also required to apologize to the public via the media.

Shandong will next solve the problem of automobile exhausts. By the end of 2015, all yellow sticker vehicles and 1.16 million old cars will be eliminated. Zhang Bo, director of Shandong Provincial Environmental Protection Bureau, said that they must march forward when solving the problem of air pollution.
