Shandong Weihai to execute '510 Project'

In 2014, Weihai will execute its “510 Project,” in order to promote the development of leisure fishery.

The “510 Project” includes: (1) to build 10 comprehensive leisure fishery demonstration bases integrating gathering seafood, sightseeing, catering, entertainment and shopping across Shuangdao Bay, Xixiakou and Liugong Island.; (2) to build 10 offshore fishing bases in Jiming Island and Dongzhu Island; (3) to build 10 offshore idyllic sightseeing parks relying on aquiculture areas of the companies such as Yutai, Hongyuan and Mingde; (4) to create 10 fishing area tourism service areas in Sunjiatong, Hekou and Yandunjiao; and (5) to carry out more than 10 leisure and holiday activities in Xiaoshi Island andWendeng.

It is estimated that in 2014, the output of Weihai’s leisure fishery will increase by 20 percent, reaching 3.6 billion yuan, and Weihai will become a major destination of leisure fishery in China.
