In 1861, British and French envoys entered Beijing and took the lead in setting up legations in Dongjiaominxiang, just 1,000 meter from the Forbidden City. Afterwards, Russia, Japan, the United States, Germany, Austria, Spain, Italy, Holland and Belgium also set up legations here.
