Editorial in Memory of Chinese Volunteers in Korean War

People's Daily will publish an editorial Wednesday to mark the 50th anniversary of the detaching of the Chinese People's Volunteers (CPV) to Korea to fight against US aggressors together with the People's Army of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

While entering into a new century, a retrospection of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea (1950-53), in which peace and justice conquered hegemony and evil five decades ago, still brings us a deep feeling of glory and pride for our great people and great army, the editorial says.

It calls the war "a lofty monument engraved with the great spirit of patriotism and revolutionary heroism" in the splendid history of the Chinese nation.

The victory of the war is another major victory, following the War of Resistance Against the Japanese Aggression (1937-45), for the Chinese people in struggles against imperialist aggression, the editorial stresses.

The war safeguarded the security of the motherland and supported the Korean people, which made an indelible historic contribution to the peace in Asia and the world, it says, noting that it is a great victory for all the peoples in the world who advocate justice and love peace.

The editorial shows memory of the CPV martyrs who sacrificed themselves gloriously on the Korean battleground and gives lofty respect to former CPV officers, soldiers and their relatives and to those who contributed to the victory of the war.

Enormous changes have taken place in China and the world over the past five decades, the editorial says. The retrospection of the war means telling the people and, in particular, the younger generation that today's economic achievements and sweet life in the motherland as well as the glory and dignity the motherland has held are "hard-earned," it stresses.

The triumphant war indicates that the Communist Party of China (CPC) is a loyal representative of the fundamental interests of the Chinese nation and the force at the core to lead the country's development.

In the history of China, there has been no other political force like the CPC that could have striven for the interests of the state and the nation, being brave and fearless of any evil, suppression and sacrifice, and there has been no other political force like the CPC that could have led, organized and brought together millions of people to unite as one and win victory after victory, according to the editorial.

This has been proven through the CPC-led victories and achievements in the Liberation War (1946-49), the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, and the ongoing reform, opening-up and modernization drive, the editorial says.

The War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea shows that patriotism is a banner for conglomerating the whole nation and revolutionary heroism is a talisman for China to get over the enemy, the editorial says.

It reiterates that the Chinese people advocate justice and love peace, and long for peace and progress, but they "will never bow to hegemonism and power politics," and will always safeguard their state sovereignty and national interests.
