NPC to Review Jiang's Resignation from Remaining State Post

China's legislature, the National People's Congress (NPC), will review the request of Jiang Zemin to resign from his chairmanship of the State Central Military Commission (CMC) at the imminent annual session beginning Saturday, a spokesman for the annual session said in Beijing Friday.

Spokesman Jiang Enzhu told the press that the Third Session of the 10th NPC will also elect the new chairman of the State Central Military commission, and decide on the members of the State CMC according to nomination of the new State CMC chairman.

Jiang Zemin, 78, resigned as chairman of the CMC of the Communist Party of China last September, and was succeed by Hu Jintao.

Hu Jintao is widely expected to be elected as the new chairman of the State CMC, as the practice in the past two decades.

Approximately 3,000 NPC deputies will also hear and review the government work report to be delivered by Premier Wen Jiabao on the opening day of the session.

Another important agenda of the session will be the deliberation of the anti-secession law.

Moreover, the legislature deputies will also review and approve the reports on the government budget and on economic and social development plan, according to Jiang.
