Former Anhui Provincial Health Director on Trial

A former provincial deputy director of health went on trial Wednesday for alleged bribery and huge unidentified property in east China's Anhui Province.

Shang Jun, female, 52, was charged with taking briberies of 906,500 yuan (US$114,000) and US$200 between 1992 and 2005, the Intermediate People's Court of Anqing City heard.

Shang was also accused of taking huge property worth 980,000 yuan (US$124,000) with unidentified sources, according to the court.

Shang worked as deputy director of the Provincial Health Department of Anhui from April to September 2005. She was arrested in March this year.

Between 1992 and 2005, Shang worked as vice mayor, secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) discipline inspection committee of Fuyang City and deputy secretary the CPC Fuyang City Committee of the CPC.

She took briberies when arranging jobs and acquiring construction projects for others, according to the court.

The court did not pronounce judgment for her Wednesday.
