Seven people were killed on Thursday and another five injured by a pileup involving eight vehicles on an expressway in east China's Jiangsu Province, police said.

The accident took place at about 7 AM on the Xingtai section of Ningjingyan expressway in a dense fog, local police said.

The eight vehicles including trucks and cars collided in the fog, killing seven people on the spot. The five injured have been sent to hospital.

Investigation into the accident is under way.
