More than 2,700 people are being evacuated from a southwest China village where unstable rocks on top of a mountain may come crashing down at any time, said a local government spokesman Friday.
About 20,000 cubic meters of precarious rock blocks could slide at any moment from a mountain in Gongtan township, Youyang County of Chongqing Municipality, the municipality's bureau of land resources reported Friday.
There are 317 households and eight institutions in the endangered area, including the township government and a school.
The evacuation started on Sunday and 35 households have moved to safe places by Thursday night.
