At least two people were confirmed dead and six others are feared to have died after a bus plunged into a 30-meter-deep river in east China's Fujian Province on Monday, the local traffic police said Tuesday.

The bus carrying 32 people was en route from Sanming to Quanzhou City when it ran into a truck, veered off the provincial highway and tumbled into the river at 6:30 PM, said a spokesman with the traffic police authority in Yongchun County.

The injured are being treated at the county hospital and rescuers are searching for six others, he said.

The highway reopened at midnight.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

Monday witnessed another deadly bus accident that claimed at least 26 lives in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality. Speeding and overloading were blamed for causing the bus to plunge off a bridge.
