Over 1000 Get Lost in Crowded Tiananmen Square
Adjust font size:

More than a thousand people managed to get lost in a packed Tian'anmen Square on Tuesday, the first day of the week-long "golden holidays" in China.

According to police, some 160,000 people visited Beijing's Tian'anmen on Tuesday, and 1,075 of them ended up being separated from their companions in the dense crowds.

But all's well that ends well - by the end of the day they were all reunited with their companions.

Police say that about 50 visitors get lost in Tian'anmen each holiday, usually between 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the center of the square or near the Forbidden City.

Police advised visitors to stay together, and parents to keep a close eye on their children.

People who get separated from their friends can seek help from police or from one of the two service vehicles on the square.
