Flood Rushes into Shanxi Colliery, Traps 11 Coal Miners

Rainstorm-triggered flood rushed into a colliery Sunday evening in Luliang City of north China's Shanxi Province, trapping 11 coal miners underground, according to sources with the city government Monday.

The flood rushed into the Makulue colliery in Xingxian County of Luliang City, leaving 11 coal miners trapped in the shaft.

An official with the city government told Xinhua on Monday morning that it's still unclear whether the 11 trapped are till alive.

By 8:00 AM Monday, two water pumps have drained water in the shaft and workers are busy installing four mud pumps.

Makulue colliery, with an annual production capacity of 60,000 tons, is a village-owned colliery approved by the government.
