Popularizing Science the People Way
Adjust font size:

Vice President Zeng Qinghong on Sunday called for better people-oriented work in efforts to popularize science. Zeng was at the Haidian Exhibition Hall to participate in National Science Popularization Day activities.

The work must be based on daily life, which meets the needs of the public and is done for the public, Zeng said.

Zeng, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, visited the Beijing Red Cross Society stand, and watched a first-aid demonstration.

Zeng said that only people-oriented work can raise public awareness of health and disease prevention.

This year's theme of National Science Popularization Day was "Participating in Energy Conservation and Preventing Diseases"

Since 2004, the Chinese Association for Science and Technology (CAST) has designated the third Sunday of September as National Science Popularization Day.

While visiting the energy knowledge section, Zeng said that more must be done to educate the public on energy conservation.

Zeng and other senior officials were pleased to see that those attending the fair were mostly young Chinese.

He said that China's youth are the future of the country, and an important force in disease prevention and energy conservation.
