The one-yuan renminbi note.

A recent photo of Shi Naiyin.

The girl featured on the one-yuan renminbi note has been identified to be a woman living in a local village in Guizhou Province in southwest China.

Guizhou Metropolis Daily recently reported that the woman, named Shi Naiyin in mandarin, is now 45 years old. She is of the Dong ethnic minority group.

The report said she was not aware she graced the bank note until several years ago, when people noted the remarkable similarity between her and the figure on the note.

Then, she recalled, when she was 16 years old, a stranger taking a profile shot of her at a local fair.

Shi Naiyin was a charming girl in her youth. She got married at the age of 22 and is the mother of two children.
