Zhang Zhongwei      

Governor of Sichuan Province

Zhang Zhongwei, a native from Dujiangyan City in Sichuan Province, was born in February 1942. After receiving a junior college education, he began work in June 1956 and joined the Communist Party of China (CPC) in September 1960. He received a diploma in administration of Party and government officials through taking part in the self-study examination of higher education.

Jun. 1956-Dec. 1959: Accountant for the handicraft cooperatives of Xuankou and Taiping townships in Guanxian County, Sichuan Province.

Dec. 1959- Sep. 1964: Officer of Taiping Commune Party Committee, Zhong Xing District Party Committee, and organization department of the Guanxian County Party Committee.

Sep. 1964-Dec.1972: Officer of the Wenjiang Prefectual Party Committee office, Sichuan.

Dec. 1972-Nov. 1978: Deputy secretary and secretary of the Communist Youth League of China (CYLC) Wenjiang Prefectural Committee.

Nov. 1978-Aug. 1982: Secretary of CPC Pengxian County Committee - during this period, he also studied at the second cadres' training program at the Party School of CPC Central Committee from Sep. 1981 to Jul. 1982.

Aug. 1982-May 1983: Secretary of CPC Wenjiang Prefectural Committee.

May 1983-Oct. 1987: Standing committee member for the CPC Chengdu Municipal Committee and secretary of the Rural Work Committee.

Oct. 1987-Jun. 1988: Deputy head of the Organization Department of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee.

Jun. 1988-Feb. 1993: Head of the Sichuan Provincial Department of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry.

Feb. 1993- Mar. 1997: Vice governor of Sichuan Province.

Mar. 1997- May 1999: Deputy secretary of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and acting governor.

Jan. 2000: Governor of Sichuan Province.

Jan. 2003: Re-elected as governor of Sichuan at the first session of the 10 Sichuan People's Congress.

He is currently serving as a member of the 16th CPC Central Committee.
