Qazihan Mosque, Turpan

IAlthough situated in the new quarter of Turpan, Qazihan Mosque was built in 1747. It underwent a complete renovation of both interior and exterior in 1983.

The most striking feature of the building is its six minarets, or munar in the local language. All are built directly onto the mosque walls, with two-thirds of their height soaring above. Their peaked tops are also distinct from the dome-shaped caps normally seen in the region. The green, yellow and white ornamentation of the building and the conspicuous decorative patterns above the gate speak strongly of its Uygur identity.
