Hong Kong Special Administrative Region


  Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Called "Gang" for short, Hong Kong is situated east of the Pearl River estuary and south of the Shenzhen River in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, along the coast of the South China Sea. Comprising Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, the New Territories and neighboring islands, it covers 1,098.51 square km. At the end of 2002, Hong Kong had a population of nearly 6.82 million, of whom around 6.63 million are permanent residents and 190,500 are migrant inhabitants. The figure does not include the number of visitors, which stood at 271,800 at the end of 2002.


 

Macao Special Administrative Region


  Macao Special Administrative Region Called "Ao" for short, Macao is situated on a peninsular on the western banks of the Pearl River estuary. Encompassing Taipa and Coloane islands, it covers around 25.8 square km, with the number of residents standing at 442,000 at the end of 2002.
