Let Dogs Manage Dogs: Shanghai
Adjust font size:

For better management of pet dogs in Shanghai, the local government will mobilize retired military dogs to help regulate dogs in residential communities.

People's Daily reports social problems correlated with dogs have risen sharply in Shanghai in recent years with the soaring numbers of the pets. However, authorities have failed to work out a solution that satisfies both residents and dog owners.

Injuries by dogs, random droppings in public places and possible disease outbreaks relating to dogs are the headaches local people face.

According to the report, there were 130,000 dogs licensed in the city by the end of last year. The number doubles if illegal dogs are counted.

In addition to "dog wardens," the municipal government will also provide more services for dog owners and enhance punishment for city management violators to better deal with the dog problem.
