Chinese actor and director Jiang Wen has announced September 21 as the postponed national release date for his new art-house film, The Sun Also Rises.

Jiang Wen, who also stars in the film, accompanied cast members Joan Chen and Jaycee Chan to meet with the media for the first time on Sunday in Beijing.

Leading actress Zhou Yun didn't show up.

During the press conference, Jiang Wen emphasized that it is difficult to describe the film using words, and people really need to watch the film before forming an opinion.

Movie critics expected the film to garner a Golden Palm Award at this year's Cannes Film Festival, before it was surprisingly taken off of the final line-up, because some parts of the film were mangled during post-production.

The film was previously set for nationwide release in June.
