The Party set up Eighth Route Army offices one after another in Nanjing, Wuhan, Xi'an, and Chongqing to mobilize patriotic people to take part in the anti-Japanese war and support the guerrilla warfare behind enemy lines. Youth from all over the country went to the Eighth Route Army's Xi'an Office to apply for acceptance into anti-Japanese schools in Yan'an.
