Eight American soldiers were wounded on Sunday in a multiple bomb and gunfire attacks targeting a patrol base in an area southeast of the capital, the US military said on Tuesday.

"The attack, involving a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device, small arms fire, and mortar fire," a military statement said.

The complex attack was encountered with US ground force backed by aircraft, the statement said.
