Hu Calls for Study of Theories

Vice-President Hu Jintao yesterday called on all members of the Communist Party of China to continue to uphold Deng Xiaoping Theory, fully implement the "Three Represents" theory and prepare for the 16th Party Congress by fulfilling, to the best of their abilities, the tasks of reform, development and stability.

Hu, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Party Central Committee's Political Bureau, was speaking at the opening ceremony of the autumn term of the Party School, of which he is president.

The speech given at the school on May 31 by Party General Secretary Jiang Zemin is another important Marxist document, following the one he made on July 1 last year, said Hu, who is also a member of the Party Central Committee's Secretariat.

Jiang's May 31 speech is an important political, ideological and theoretical preparation for the 16th Party Congress, Hu said. He added that the study of Jiang's new instructions will deepen understanding of the "Three Represents" theory.

The "Three Represents" theory created by Jiang calls on the Party to always represent the development trend of China's advanced productive forces, the orientation of China's advanced culture and the fundamental interests of the overwhelming majority of the Chinese people.

Also present at yesterday's ceremony was Zeng Qinghong, an alternate member of the Party Central Committee's Political Bureau, a member of the Party Central Committee's Secretariat, and director of the Organizational Department of the Party Central Committee.

The ceremony was chaired by Yu Yunyao, vice-president of the Party School.
