The people’s congress system is the country’s basic political system. On December 4, 1982, the Fifth Session of the Fifth National People’s Congress was convened in Beijing. It adopted the new Constitution of the People’s Republic of China. This symbolized the beginning of a new era for China’s socialist democracy and legal system.
