Zhang Yunchuan      

Zhang Yunchuan was born in Zhejiang Province's Dongyang in 1946. He majored in internal-combustion engines for navel vessels at the Harbin Institute of Military Engineering from 1964 to 1970. He joined the Communist Part of China (CPC) in 1973.

1970-1985: Technician, deputy section chief, section chief, production director of the 6214 factory under the Ministry of the Sixth Machine Building Industry.

1985-1986: Standing committee member of municipal Party committee and deputy mayor of Jiujiang in Jiangxi Province.

1986-1991: Administrative office commissioner of Jiangxi's Ganzhou Prefecture.

1991-1993: Assistant to the Jiangxi governor.

Feb. 1993-Apr. 1995: Vice governor of Jiangxi Province.

Apr. 1995: Vice chairman of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Regional Government.

Feb. 1998: Deputy secretary of the fifth CPC Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Regional Committee and later served as deputy secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee.

Aug. 2001: Vice governor and acting governor of Hunan Province.

Feb. 2, 2002: Elected as governor of Hunan at the fifth session of the 9th Hunan People's Congress.

Jan. 2003: Elected as Governor of Hunan at the first session of the 10th Hunan People's Congress.

He was appointed as minister of the Commission of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense on March, 2003.

Zhang is currently serving as a member of the 16th CPC Central Committee.
