China will continue to work with the US and other parties concerned to seek a peaceful solution to the nuclear issues on the Korean Peninsula and in Iran, Chinese President Hu Jintao said Thursday.

Hu made the remarks at the welcome ceremony hosted in his honor by US President George W. Bush on the White House South Lawn.

"China is ready to continue to work with the US side and other parties concerned to peacefully resolve the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula and the Iranian nuclear issue through diplomatic negotiations, to uphold the international nonproliferation regime and to safeguard global peace and stability," Hu said.

"The 21st century has entrusted people around world with a lofty historic mission. That is to maintain world peace, promote common development and create a brighter future for mankind," he said.

Hu called on the US to work together with the international community to build a world of enduring peace, common prosperity and harmony.

Hu arrived in Washington D.C. Wednesday evening from Seattle.

The US is the first leg of his five-nation tour, which will also take him to Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Nigeria and Kenya.
