Peter Chan's musical movie Perhaps Love racked up 12 nominations at this year's Taiwan Golden Horse Awards, China's equivalent of the Oscars.

Most of the nominations are for technical awards, but the movie is also in contention for Best Film, Best Director, and Best Actress for Zhou Xun.

Hong Kong actress Carina Liu is also in the running for Best Actress alongside Zhou, as well as Si Qin Gao Wa and Angelica Lee.

Fierce competition for Best Actor includes Aaron Kwok in the film After This Our Exile, and Zhang Zhen in the chess master biopic Wu Qingyuan.

After This Our Exile, a painstakingly-told story of a deadbeat father, is also competing for Best Film, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Supporting Actor.

Also, Chinese director Ning Hao's Crazy Stone received nominations for Best Screenplay, Best Director and Best Film.

Nominations announced at the press conference held on Monday in Taipei.

The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in Taipei, Taiwan on November 25.
