Though its director, Chen Yili, is unknown, the movie with big names like Chen Chang, Daniel Wu, Liu Ye and Hsu Chi attached to it has been attracting widespread attention for a while, especially with John Woo as producer.

After shooting in Shanghai for a month, the gangster movie Blood Brothers held a press conference in Shanghai November 12.

John Woo claimed the movie is not an adaptation of Bullet in the Head, which he directed in 1990. Still, first time director Chen Yili admitted he was greatly inspired by Woo's previous film.

Set in the 1930s, the movie Blood Brothers not only sheds light on gang conflicts, but also contains a lot of spice with relationships between gangsters and dancers.

Also joint-producer Zhang Jiazhen with Woo revealed that several main actors for the upcoming epic The Battle of Red Cliff have not been decided yet.

The movie Blood Brothers is a good opportunity for Woo to choose actors for his next work. Even Liu Ye revealed that the movie is a "trial" for the actors in front of the director. He said everyone acting in the movie tried to give their best performances, hoping to secure a role in Red Cliff.

Woo also admitted that some actors from Blood Brothers will be picked for Red Cliff.

John Woo's ambitious war epic The Battle of Red Cliff will begin shooting next March.
