Judicial Departments Urged to Play Roles in Full

A senior Chinese official has urged the country's judicial departments to give full play to their functions, which is of great importance in safeguarding social stability, promoting economic development, building a socialist nation ruled by law, and a harmonious socialist society.

Luo Gan, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and secretary of the CPC Central Political and Legislative Committee, remarked this Wednesday at a meeting on the implementation of the CPC Central Committee's recent resolution to strengthen the work of courts and procuratorates.

In his speech, Luo urged judicial departments to make their staff workers politically firm, professionally skillful, good in work style, and fair in carrying out their duties.

He called for pushing forward judicial reforms in a positive, steady and reliable manner, improving the mechanism of judicial work constantly, and increasing the capabilities of judicial work.

The meeting was presided over by Zhou Yongkang, state councilor and member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, and attended by Gu Xiulian, vice chairperson of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, Xiao Yang, president of the Supreme People's Court, and Jia Chunwang, procurator-in-general of the Supreme People's Procuratorate.
