China-Nepal Postage Stamp Exhibition Kicks Off in Kathmandu

A three-day China-Nepal Postage Stamp Exhibition kicks off yesterday in Kathmandu to mark the golden jubilee year of the establishment of China-Nepal diplomatic ties, state-run Radio Nepal reported today.

 

"The stamps, all collected by 10 Nepalese stamps collector, in total of 43 frames including 41 Chinese and two Nepali stamps are displayed in the exhibition at Nepal Art Council, a private art gallery at Babarmahal in downtown Kathmandu city," the radio said.

 

"Nepal and China enjoy a very close relationship that is thousands of years old and share common views in regard to maintaining peace in the world," Shrish Shumsher JB Rana, Nepali Minister of State for Information and Communication, said at the inauguration function of the exhibition.

 

Rana also affixed the first cancellation mark on six kinds of commemorative stamps, published by the Postal Services Department (PSD) of Nepal on Nepal-China diplomatic relations, 50 years completion of Nepal's UN membership and ornaments worn by Nepal's ethnic communities including Sherpa, Limbu, Newar and Tharu, the radio noted.

 

Similarly, Kumar Poudel, Secretary at the Ministry of Information and Communications, affixed the first cancellation mark on a commemorative cover published by Nepal Philatelic Society (NPS), to mark the golden jubilee celebration of China-Nepal diplomatic ties, the radio added.

 

The exhibition is being organized by NPS, a non-government organization of Nepal, with the cooperation of PSD and China Study Center, a non-government friendship organization of Nepal.
