Adjust font size:

China is ready to enhance exchanges and cooperation with Latin American countries, said top legislator Wu Bangguo on Tuesday.

Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), made the remarks when meeting with Jorge Pizarro Soto, vice president of the Latin American Parliament.

Wu said to increase friendly relations with developing countries, including those in Latin America, is an important part of China's foreign policy.

China and Latin American nations share common demands of strengthening bilateral relations, with increasing common interests and great potential in win-win cooperation between the two sides, Wu said, noting that China will increase exchanges and cooperation with Latin American nations to lift the China-Latin America ties to a new high.

Expressing appreciation for Latin America's adherence to the one-China policy, Wu said the Taiwan question concerns China's national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and realizing national reunification is the common desire of all Chinese people.

Wu spoke highly of the important role of the Latin American Parliament in pushing for regional peace, stability and development, saying that the NPC values the friendly relations with the Latin American Parliament, and will work with the Latin American Parliament to push for the China-Latin America ties.

Pizarro spoke highly of China's remarkable achievements in economic and social progress, saying that China's development plays an increasingly important part in pushing for world peace and development.

Pizarro reiterated that the Latin American Parliament would continue sticking to one-China policy, and would enhance friendly exchanges with the NPC, in an effort to push for the relations between Latin American nations and China.
