Peruvian President Alan Garcia on Monday met with visiting Vice Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi to discuss bilateral cooperative ties.

During the talks, Yang spoke highly of the fruits reaped in exchanges and cooperation between the two countries in political, economic and trade and cultural areas, saying that China-Peru relations had developed smoothly in recent years.

China was ready to work with the Peruvian side to further deepen the comprehensive cooperative China-Peru partnership, in a bid to promote the common development of the two countries, he added.

President Garcia, for his part, said the Peruvian government attached great importance to its ties with China and was willing to enhance cooperation with the Chinese side in such areas as politics, economy and trade, culture and tourism.

He reaffirmed that the Peruvian government would firmly adhere to the one-China policy.

The two sides also exchanged views on other major issues of common concern.

Also on Monday, Yang held talks with Peru's Foreign Minister Jose Garcia, and signed with his Peruvian counterpart a cooperative agreement on economy and technology.

Yang arrived in Lima late on Sunday for a goodwill visit, after attending as an observer the 14th summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Cuba.
