Heavy snow has grounded flights and closed several airports across Europe.

Prague international airport, the busiest in Central Europe, was closed by heavy snowfall early on Wednesday. Around 100 flights had been canceled, airport officials said.

At Germany's Stuttgart airport, around 70 flights were canceled by Wednesday morning, officials said. Some 1,000 passengers were stranded.

At least three fatal accidents happened in southern Germany as a result of the snowy weather.

In Switzerland, more than 30 flights to and from Basel's EuroAirport were canceled on Wednesday.
