World champion Yurisleidis Lupetey of Cuba triumphed in the women's under 57kg judo competition at the 21st Universiade on Saturday.
Lupetey, who quickly subdued four previous rivals, three by ippon, encountered tough challenge from Japanese Chika Nonaka in the final. The 20-year-old Cuban finally won the close bout by two yuko against one koka.
Chinese Zheng Linli snatched a bronze through the repechage and Michaela Vernerova of Czech Republic captured the other.
Lupetey won the gold of the same class in the 2001 World Judo Championships in Munich, Germany.
