Visiting Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao Wednesday called for the early creation of a free trade zone between China and South Korea.

"We hope that both sides will speed up preparation work and put forward a win-win scheme of mutual benefit as soon as possible, in order to lay a foundation for the final establishment of a free trade zone," Wen said at a luncheon with entrepreneurs from both countries.

Wen also called on both sides to cooperate more closely in science and technology, saying that China is ready to learn from South Korea's advanced experiences.

China is ready to enhance cooperation with South Korea in the fields of environmental protection, energy saving, telecommunications, goods transportation, high-tech development and the protection of intellectual property rights, the Chinese premier told the gathering.

Wen arrived in Seoul Tuesday morning for his first ever visit as premier to South Korea. During his stay, Wen held talks with South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun and his South Korean counterpart Han Duck-soo. He also attended the opening ceremony of the China-South Korea Exchange Year.

He was scheduled to leave for Japan Wednesday and conclude his two-nation tour on Friday.
