Xie Dong, a former pop singer who became an anti-drug volunteer after being detained for drug abuse a year ago, was arrested again for the same reason.

Xie and his girlfriend were taken into 10-day custody over the weekend after being tested positive for methamphetamine, the Beijing News reported on Monday.

The two were required to take urine tests after the police received a report that said Xie Dong had started taking drugs again.

An ensuing search at Xie's home in western Beijing found drug-using equipment, the report says.

Xie Dong also admitted that his efforts to resist drugs went to no avail, the report quoted sources close to the police.

The 45-year-old singer, who reached a career peak in the 1990s, was arrested for drug offenses in May last year. He was very active during drug rehab and was named by the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau as an anti-drug volunteer in December, and had participated in several anti-drug rallies.
