Heavy snow, thunder storm hit Beijing

Moderate snow with thunder storm hit most parts of Beijing since Monday night.

A plummet of 9 degrees Celsius of outdoor temperature to 2.5 degrees Celsius below zero at 6:00 a.m. from the same time on Monday, according to the Beijing Meteorological Station.

The northwestern Haidian District reported the heaviest snowfall in the city proper, it said.

A resident in Haidian surnamed Zhou said she found about 15 to 20 centimeters of snow atop her car this morning.

Zhang Zhiqiang, an official in charge of the city's road cleaning said, workers had used 1,482 tonnes of snow-thawing agents to melt and clear ice and snow from the roads.

About 3,800 policemen are directing the traffic at Beijing's main roads, and few accidents have been reported in its traffic peak, according to the Beijing Traffic Management Bureau.
