Indonesia to host environment ministerial meeting

Indonesian Environmental Affairs Ministry is to host the 11th miniterial meeting attended by members of the UN Environmental Program (UNEP) on Feb.22-26, a senior official of the ministry said Thursday.

The meeting is expected to be attended by 192 environment ministers, Toxic and Hazardous Garbage Deputy at the ministry Imam Hendarto said.

He added that 150 of the ministers expected to attend the summit have already confirmed their attendance.

"The summit would discuss global environmental issues based on the terms agreed in UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Conference on Climate Change) meeting in Copenhagen in December last year, " Imam said.

He added that Indonesian government would take the opportunity to secure its national interests in global climate change issue.

Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has pledged Indonesia's targets to reduce carbon emission by 26 percent or 41 percent by foreign assistance by 2020.
