The department said that as of Feb. 17, El Nino's damage to rice sector has already reached 1.7 billion pesos (US$36.8 million), while the corn sector has already suffered from 2 billion pesos (US$43.4 million) worth of losses.
Philippine Agriculture Undersecretary Joel Rudinas said the El Nino has damaged a combined amount 201,237 metric tons of paddy rice and corn.
"The (amount of damage) is still within our target. There are some areas that are experiencing good farm conditions even if some areas are badly affected," he said.
The El Nino started to dry up farmlands late December and continues to affect 22 areas all over the country.
